Day 2: Empower Your Instruction

Day 2 at the Pilates Summit presents two immersive workshops designed to expand your teaching and class design toolkit.

Option 1, led by Shannen Miller at Club Pilates North Burnet, is an 8-hour Barre Above® Pilates Focused Instructor Certification. This session blends the foundational principles of the Lotte Burke method with advanced exercise science, empowering you to integrate vertical barre techniques into traditional Pilates. You'll gain insights into designing dynamic, balanced classes and crafting progressive, muscle-enduring workouts that elevate your overall instructional proficiency.

Alternatively, Option 2 with Misty Lynne Cauthen focuses on deconstructing and rebuilding Pilates exercises for mixed-level classes. Titled "Break It to Build It," this workshop teaches you how to simplify complex movements and tailor them to accommodate diverse skill levels, ensuring each student receives personalized and effective instruction. Together, these options provide a comprehensive approach to enhancing your teaching methodology, equipping you with innovative strategies to transform your Pilates classes.

Day 2 Option 1:

Location: Club Pilates North Burnet at 11005 Burnet Rd., Suite 106, Austin TX 78758

Time: 12pm – 8pm

CECs: 8

Workshop Title: 8 Hour Barre Above® Pilates Focused Instructor Certification

Workshop Description: Extracting every drop of grace and grit from the foundational principles of the Lotte Burke method, the Barre Above with Pilates ® certification additionally distills traditional class components through the most cutting-edge of exercise science and applies them to Pilates instructors and Pilates enthusiasts.

While the signature sequence may be new to your Pilates students, with your help they’ll recognize many of the essential vertical movements with small apparatus as ones they learn on the reformer.

You now have in your arsenal a whole new way to practice and refine traditional reformer movements off the reformer–all packaged into a special delivery of muscular endurance that hits a little different (or a lot) than traditional Pilates reps.

What You'll Learn:

  • Design and execute classic barre classes and fusion classes for a variety of fitness levels in your Pilates class

  • How to enhance your Pilates classes with the vertical approach of barre

  • Structure a dynamite 30, 45, 55, or 60 min. stand-alone class that’s perfectly balanced

  • Pattern exercise sequences that not only supercharge strength gains, but also enrich cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, endurance, and posture.

  • Ace any and all types of room-and-barre setups (One barre? Three barres? No barres? No problem.)

  • Identify apparatus-inspired movements on a vertical plane with small equipment

  • Cue in a way that lands with all, not just some. (Because no two students are alike!)

  • Tee up class with a deliberate warm-up that turns up the heat and turns on the efficacy

  • Lean into the Barre Above® sequence methodology to capture the essence of that muscular endurance that barre is famous for

  • Confidently work the room like the virtuoso you are–and in turn make your class feel the same

  • Upgrade your teaching proficiency and feel the major satisfaction that comes with it

What You'll Need: Please bring your own mat to ensure we have enough for everyone.

Day 2 Option 2:

Presenter: Misty Lynne Cauthen

Location: Club Pilates Allandale at 5802 Burnet Rd. Austin, TX 78756

Time: 12pm – 6pm

Workshop Title: Break It to Build It: Deconstructing Pilates Exercises Successfully in Mixed-Level Classes

Workshop Description: There’s a particular hush that comes over a class when the clients hear the words beginner, basic, or foundation - and it’s not often the good kind of hush. Many teachers struggle with progressing students safely from level to level - especially in the mixed-level class environment.

In this workshop, participants will learn to break down exercises that are challenging to teach and/or refine to their foundations to add ease (or difficulty), and clarity to the movement. This will allow teachers to see the critical through-line of each exercise, from the most basic level to its pinnacle, so they recognize the value of the pre-Pilates exercises as a foundational framework and ensure each client an individualized experience, even within a group class setting.

*This course may include the use of Pilates apparatus and is suitable for teachers of all levels.
